Is Your Garage Door Ready? 3 Components That Need Attention Before Winter

Now that summer is officially over, and fall is on the way out, it's time to get your home ready for winter. If you're like most people, you haven't added garage door repairs to your to-do list yet. If your garage door seems to be in good working order, you might think that's a safe thing to do. But, garage door problems can pop up without notice. If that happens in the middle of winter, you could find yourself out in the cold. Now that you're making your home maintenance to-do list, make sure you include your garage door. If you're not sure what type of repairs your garage door will need right now, take a look at the list provided below. Here are three components of your garage door that should be serviced before winter.

Garage Door Opener

If your garage door seems to be functioning fine right now, don't assume it will stay that way throughout the winter. A lot of things can go wrong with your garage door opener during the winter. Some of those problems include transmitter interruption, photo-eye misalignment, and chain drive malfunction. The best way to avoid those problems is to have your garage door opener repaired or replaced before winter arrives.

Battery Pack

If you don't have a back-up battery pack for your garage door opener, you could be in for some problems come winter. It's not uncommon for winter storms to cause power outages. If you don't have a back-up battery pack, you won't be able to use your garage door until the power is back on. You won't have that problem when you have a battery pack installed. If you do have a back-up battery pack, now's the time to have it inspected. That way, you can take care of repairs or replacements before your garage door falls victim to a power outage.

Springs

If it's been more than a few years since you had the garage door springs inspected, you could be in for a rude awakening this winter. Freezing temperatures can wreak havoc on garage door springs, especially those that are already weakened by age. Unfortunately, if the springs do break on your garage door, they could cause serious injuries to anyone who happens to be nearby at the time. If you're worried that your garage door springs won't last the winter, have them replaced as soon as possible.

Don't let your garage door fall victim to weather-related problems this winter. Contact a garage door repair service to come out and take care of the issues described above. For more information about repair services, check out a website like https://planooverhead.com/.
